Reputation management is a critical part of getting business and protecting your brand, especially online. There are many great things about the Internet and everything that being online has to offer, but there are unfortunately some negative drawbacks. One of those being is that anyone can put up virtually anything they want and that even includes negative and disparaging comments, often under the name “Anonymous” or even some other handle that hides their identity so they never have to face anyone face to face for what they said or what they did. There’s also the fact that one mistake can spread like wildfire and absolutely plaster the Internet with stories that are not doing you or your brand any good at all.
While this is never fun to deal with, the good news is that there are some simple steps you can take yourself to start the process of reputation management, or hand it off to a professional company who will be able to do all this faster and even build off of your original bricks to create a full blown reputation management campaign that you can be proud of.
Step 1: Flood the Blog Options!
The first step is making sure there are enough blogs, websites, and web pages out there to take up 10 spots in Google. Virtually no one ever looks past the first page so being able to control those rankings is critical to keeping your reputation gleaming. Look at places where you can create free blogs like Tumblr, Blogspot, WordPress.com, Weebly, HubPages, and more. By having a few pages of different original content, each one of those is going to get picked up as an option in the search engines. They might not all end up first page but at least you’re on your way.
Step 2: Be Social and Be Out There
Social media accounts are becoming more and more important, as well, which is why it’s so important to make sure that you have a Facebook page, Twitter account, and other social media. A Google+ account is always a good idea and having all of these can help you control the conversation and also add more pages that the search engines can find and rank over any disparaging stories.
Step 3: Article Marketing and Online Press Release Power
Don’t underestimate what a strong press release campaign to PRWeb or online article marketing can do. More articles means more positive stories about your accomplishments and less space online for those stories you’d rather have die into the background.
Tackle these three steps or hire a firm to do so and you’ll be on your way to a cleaner and happier reputation!
