Cleaning Up Your Online Reputation

How is your online reputation? Whether you are the owner of a business that has some negative reviews online, or you are an individual who has said and done some questionable things and posted them online, your online reputation precedes you. As you can imagine, this is not always a good thing. If you are looking for employment, you can be sure that employers will look you up on the web. What will they find? If customers are looking for products you sell and trying to learn more about your company, will they be happy with what they see? In both cases, a bad reputation means moving on to the next candidate.

First, you should take the time to look up all of the negative things regarding you that are online. Make a list of them and see what you can do to remove them. In the case of posts and photos on your personal social media sites, removing them is not usually an issue. If a friend has a photo that’s not very flattering, you could request that they remove it or at least remove your name from the photo. If you can’t remove them, as is often the case with reviews, for example, you can effectively bury them by putting out a wealth of positive content. That way, when people look up your name or company online, the better and more positive information is at the top of the search engine pages.

However, you also have to take steps to improve your business, and to really think about the things you do and post. You do not want managing your reputation to be a constant battle against the things that you do to make yourself or company look bad. Clean up your act, improve your products, and find ways to make the customers happy. Keeping up a better reputation does not have to be difficult.

For many companies, regardless of where their current reputation stands, the prospect of trying to manage their online reputation on their own is daunting. They may not feel they have the time or the experience to do it correctly. Fortunately, you do not have to do it all on your own. You can always outsource the management to another company who can make sure you keep the great reputation that you and your company deserve.
