Creating a Vision Statement for Your Business

Entrepreneurs have a lot of work ahead of them.  One thing that they must focus on early in is creating a vision statement and mission statement for their business.  It is key to understand that a vision statement and a mission statement are not one in the same.

Your vision statement should be the vision for the future of your business.  This will sum up the ideal of where you want your business to be.  This gives you the opportunity to take a look at the bigger picture.  A mission statement should be a statement that tells how you plan to get to these goals that were set forth in your vision statement.

How can your vision statement affect your overall business?

  • It helps to monitor the progress of your business and keep you moving in the right direction.
  • It helps to inspire your employees and move them in the right direction.
  • It can help to ensure that your customers are loyal.

The business vision statement should be something that everyone is aware of.  If everyone is not aware, then it may be very helpful to your business.  You should integrate your vision statement into your day to day endeavors.  If your vision statement is clear, then it can help to promote positive brand name awareness.

Here are a few things that you may find helpful when it comes to developing a vision statement for your business:

  • Brainstorm ideas to ensure that your vision is unique.
  • Allow your employees help you to come up with an effective vision statement.
  • Make sure that your vision statement is short, and doesn’t include financial goals.

Here are a few questions that you should ask yourself:

  • Where do you want your business to be in five years?
  • What accomplishments do you hope to have achieved by then?
  • What are your business values?

If you have a clear vision statement, everyone in the workplace will know what is expected of them.  This will allow everyone to work together toward a common goal.
