Fighting Spam in the Business World

This day and age, spam has proven to be quite common.  If you use the internet in any way for your business, then you will want to make sure that you are fully aware of the anti-spam laws that have been put into effect by the federal government.  As of December 15, 2010, this law was passed and has since been in full effect.

The anti-spam law prohibits businesses from sending out commercial electronic messages without first having the consent of the recipient.  This includes, but is not limited to sending messages through social media avenues, text, and e-mail accounts.  When working on your marketing plan, you will want to make sure that you are in compliance with this important law.

The new federal government requirements will definitely help to cut down on the amount of spam that you receive, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that you won’t get any spam messages at all.  There are a lot of spammers out there that conduct business from other countries.  For this very reason, it is still a good idea to filter your e-mails before opening them to ensure that you don’t open something that could be detrimental.

You can take steps to ensure the protection of your equipment and your sensitive business data.  You should always make sure that the software programs and operating systems on your computer are kept up to date.  You should also always use a reliable and trustworthy anti-virus program that includes anti-spam software and a firewall.  This really can help to reduce your risks.

When hiring new employees, it is important to train them on safety as well.  You can test their knowledge and help them brush up on their skills when it comes to protecting your business from spam and other threats.
