Music may have made her famous, but she made herself rich. Jessica Simpson is much more than a pop star; she is the billionaire businesswoman who oversees one of the most successful lifestyle brands on the market. Her success stretches across fashion, beauty, and television. With all of the adversities she has conquered, what can’t she do?
The Jessica Simpson Collection has seen rapid growth since it was founded 8 years ago. In the beginning, the brand only sold women’s shoes before she added handbags, sunglasses, clothing (including maternity, plus sizes, and juniors), jewelry, and fragrances to the line. In 2012, Simpson released a Jessica Simpson Girl’s Collection for “tween” aged girls and the brand’s growth persists as Simpson herself announced that a baby clothing and shoe line is in the works. Simpson says her inspiration for the shoe line came from her 10 month old daughter Maxwell and it will highlight her own “personal style and love of shoes.”
Future of the Business
When asked which fashion tycoon she admires, Simpson says she looks up to Ralph Lauren. She is looking to expand her empire to the point where her success could possibly rival his. Lines of menswear and fine jewelry are possibilities for expanding the brand as well. Another long-term goal is to open stores where combinations of all her collections are sold. The Jessica Simpson Collection is already available to purchase at department stores in over 28 countries.
The Key to Success
Simpson credits the success of her collection to remaining true to herself and the things she values the most. Understanding how important it is for women to look great to feel great, her mission is to produce quality fashions at affordable rates. Simpson approves all of the goods before they are produced under her name. “In all honesty, I think people really trust me,” she said. “They trust that the product is going to be great, because they’ve given it a try and it hasn’t failed them. As far as how I’m different, I’m very real with who I am. I don’t take myself too seriously, and I’m very approachable.”
Jessica on Television
Jessica Simpson has had major success in television, including her hit MTV reality show “Newlyweds,” her reoccurring role on “That 70’s Show,” and NBC’s hit series “Fashion Star.” As for further progress in television, she is developing and starring in a biographical sitcom. The show will follow Simpson’s life as a mother and entrepreneur facing day by day situations with a comedic point of view. The show will appear on NBC and with production by Electus, the production company behind “Fashion Star”.
The Last Laugh
The growth of Jessica Simpson’s empire is relentless because she takes risks, keeps her integrity, and remains creative. Critics have bashed her for years, undermining the projects she has taken, her clothing choices, her love life, the changes in her weight and even questioned her intellect, but in this case, the “dumb blond” got the last laugh.
