Measuring the Performance of Your Site

Setting up your website is just the beginning when it comes to creating an online presence for your business.  Once you have the website up and running, it is important on maintaining it so that it will be successful for your business.  Efficient websites will attract customers and engage them to go further into the site for more information.  It will influence their buying behaviors as well and persuade them to take action and buy from you.

If you find that your site is not attracting as many customers as you would like, then you will want to make some changes.  If your website doesn’t have a goal, then it will likely be worthless.  It is a key factor for you to review the efficiency of your business site.

No matter the purpose of your site, you will want to make sure that you know how efficient it is.  Here are some of the key performance indicators for you to focus on.

Number of Visitors

One way that you can see the efficiency of your site is to track how many people visit your site.  You should check this when you are not doing anything unusual with your site that would cause your results to vary.  You can even take it further than this.  You can track the number of unique visitors to your site.  This will give you a good idea as to what your audience reach is.

Bounce Rate

The bounce rate is basically the rate in which people visit your site and leave quickly.  This can let you know that your site is not engaging enough.  If people leave after visiting the first page of your site, then you will need to make some changes to get people more interested so that they continue going through your site.

Conversion Rate

Even if you have a lot of people that visit your website, you may still find it to be inefficient.  You will need to not only engage the visitors of your site, but you will also want to make sure that you have a call to action that will turn them into customers.

If your site is not efficient, you might want to do the following:

  • Add content to help improve your search engine results.  You can do this by focusing on keywords that will boost your rankings on the search engines.
  • Redesign your site with conversion in mind.  You will want to make sure there is a clear call to action.

Speed up your site and ensure that there is not anything that will lead your visitors to a dead end.
